A SONG OF FRUTAS!

A Song of Frutas / Un pregón de frutas written by the talented Margarita Engle , published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers is out now in English and Spanish.

Here's a little about the process. From the thumbnail to the final illustration. I used a lot more reference to draw. And I do a lot more rough drawings before settling on one composition. But it would make for a long post to share it all.

My teacher and mentor illustrator Enrique Martinez was from Matanzas Cuba, he passed away a few years ago, I'm sure he would have a lot of comments for me if he saw the images. I have never visited the country but I hope whoever is familiar with the culture enjoys the book.
